About
What is PAUME?
Platform for Avant-Garde & Urban Media Explorations (PAUME) was established in 2010 by Sven Schlijper (among others Lowlands Festival, Le Salon d’Esprit, Noise Central Festival), Zeno van den Broek and Lasse Gerrits (both Betontoon).
PAUME is the child of the built environment and contemporary art and is committed to discovering and presenting the avant-garde of art.
We organize concerts, curate events, promote debates and publish records and books. We are convinced that there is a place for contemporary art in our time, provided there is a background and context to every story.
As organizers and curators we present art and its context in live dialogue.
As a website, we provide a creative hub for artists and audience with featured articles, online galleries and artists-in-residence.
As publishers, we release music and books that challenge listeners and readers. Our works and discoveries are also presented in an annual catalog. We want to create a venue, both real and virtual, for the like-minded.
Who are PAUME?
Zeno van den Broek, M.Sc. (1982) is an architect and artist, his work focuses on the synergy between the audial, the visual and the spatial. As Machinist, he released several sonic works, to many positive reviews; his latest release being ‘Of What Once Was’ (2011). He established Betontoon, a platform for urban arts, together with Lasse Gerrits. From 2010 onwards Betontoon is PAUME’s publishing organ.
Lasse Gerrits, Ph.D. (1979) is associate professor at the Erasmus University Rotterdam, specializing in urban planning and development. As a scientist he is convinced that it takes much more than scientific analysis to understand the urban to its full extent. He founded Betontoon together with Zeno van den Broek to celebrate that creation called ‘the urban’. Betontoon was merged with PAUME in 2011. At PAUME, Lasse handles the business-side of art and writes reviews and other articles.
Sven Schlijper, M.Phil. LL.M. (1976) is a freelance journalist, copy writer, producer and programmer. He writes, among others, for Kindamuzik, GOGBOT, STRP, RUIS Magazine and numerous other publlications. He established the multi-disciplinary event Le Salon d’Esprit in 2007 and developed the Noise Central Festival for avant-garde and noise music. He worked on productions such as Manuscripta and Rietveldjaar, together with Willem van Zeeland. Since 2010 he is producer of the Lowlands Bookstore and he established PAUME together with Zeno van den Broek and Lasse Gerrits in the same year.
